Holder in Due Course:
Do you realize that if a counterfeiter forges one of your checks and uses the fake check to defraud another person or company, you can then be liable for that company's loss even if you had no idea that your check had been counterfeited? This liability exists if it can be proven that you did not show "ordinary care" to prevent fraud when designing and order your checks.
Embezzlement:
The accounting firm KPMG has surveyed 1000 firms in the US over the last 25 years asking them to rank the crimes that hurt their business the most, both internally and externally. Embezzlement ranks number one! There are clear steps you can take to protect your business.
Phishing & Email Fraud:
Phishing is where a criminal sends you an email that appears to have come from eBay, PayPal, or possibly a bank asking you to click a link and provide them with sensitive information in order to keep your account active or some other ruse. Unfortunately for you, the link does not go to the actual eBay or PayPal site but instead a fake site where the criminal can capture your username, password, and credit card details so that they can get into your real account and steal from you. Email fraud is simply an extension of other forms of fraud through the email medium. These can include emails containing bogus offers, requests for help, and requests to log into your account.
Identity Theft:
Identity theft is the fastest growing crime in America with 9.9 million victims reported last year according to a Federal Trade Commission survey! There are several varieties of identity theft, all of them very serious and costly for the victim. Unfortunately, criminals have a lot to gain from identity theft and so the various techniques and tricks continue to develop faster than they can be thwarted. This really can happen to you if you are not careful.
Spyware/Adware/Viruses/Firewalls:
Have you noticed your computer acting strange lately? Does it not respond like it used to? Is it taking forever to complete tasks that used to be quick and easy? Are you seeing windows disappear or strange messages popup while working? You may be a victim of spyware, adware, and/or viruses.
