Épée Proportions

Of the three weapons used in modern sport fencing -- the foil, épée and sabre -- the épée is the heaviest.

Its three-sided blade measures 90 centimeters (35.1 inches) from the bell guard to the tip and it can weigh up to 770g (1.698 pounds). However, most competitive fencers choose swords that are only about half that heavy.

In a duel, an épée touch is scored only if there's enough force to depress the tip; by rule, this is a minimum of 750 grams-force (7.4 N), which is easy to measure since fencing's gone electric!

So now that we've shared everything we know about fencing's "épée proportions,"make Fencing Side Tear Checks yours today!
