The Aloha Shirt

When you think of the typical Hawaiian Shirt - you probably think of tourists on vacation.

Indeed - that is how these colorful clothes came to be. But there's more to the story of what Hawaiians call Aloha shirts.

Back in the 1930s, a Chinese merchant started sewing shirts for tourists at his seaside shop in Waikiki. He used brightly colored fabric from kimonos. But it turned into much more than just a tourist trend on the islands. The style quickly became popular with locals - including many surfers.

Today Aloha wear is even considered acceptable business attire in Hawaii - where it's a bit too hot to wear a suit and tie!

Hawaiian Shirt Pattern Personal Checks are colorful and casual - just like a lazy afternoon under the sun.
