The Lawrence Welk Show was one of the most popular music variety programs of the sixties and seventies.

Bubbles drifting across the screen at the end of the show were practically a trademark for the bandleader. Lawrence Welk and his television program had a reputation for being quite wholesome. But that wasn't the case for everyone on the show's cast.

Welk had to fire Alice Lion because he felt she was showing too much leg. Other cast members, who shall remain nameless, were known to be quite inebriated by the end of the program when the bubbles started floating through the air.
