In 1992, a ship left Hong Kong for Tacoma, Washington carrying a large shipment of rubber ducks and other floating playthings. But the ship ran into a storm in the North Pacific Ocean. Twelve containers full of the toys washed overboard and spilled into the icy water.

That wasn't the end of these resilient rubber ducks. Slowly but surely, they started showing up on the shores of Indonesia, Australia, South America and Alaska. Some of the ducks have even found their way across the Arctic into the Atlantic Ocean ending up on the America's East Coast!
