Yevgenia Watts says she is "addicted to painting" and "speaks watercolor." She fell in love with the creative process, choosing the path of an artist.

Her artwork has been described as expressive, fresh and vibrant. Watts enjoys experimenting, letting the paint take each piece in its own, free-flowing direction.

"I like to push my own boundaries," she explains. That's why watercolor paints are her medium of choice. "I really like the way it behaves like a living thing: it floats, it blooms, it has a mind of its own and it constantly surprises me."

CheckAdvantage is proud to presents select works of Yevgenia Watts on checks, labels and checkbook covers as part of our Licensed Artist Series.

Watts is originally from Ukraine, where she studied classical, European artistic traditions. She moved to the U.S. at the age of 22 and received a degree in architecture from UC Berkeley. But ultimately she chose to focus on her art.

When her son was born in 2009, she stayed home and began developing her career as a painter.  Today her work can be found in private and public collections around the world.

As a talented artist, observing the world around her is important. Watts is always watching for anything that might inspire her to pick up her paintbrush.

"It can be something that catches my eye with a beautiful light and dark pattern, or strong color contrast that excites me or grey foggy landscape that reflects my mood. It can be an expression on a stranger’s face or an idea that came to me in a dream. The possibilities are endless," says Watts.

In addition to her own endeavors, Watts helps other artists discover the joys of watercolor painting. She teaches classes in-person and online to adults as well as young people.
